Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

July 30-Aug. 22, 2010

Brick & MaggieAvarice, power, sex, death and dysfunction...just another day in the life of a genteel Southern family.  Come take a peek into the workings of the Pollitt family:  Big Daddy is coming home after a lengthy illness and is looking forward to ruling his Delta plantation empire.  His family has gathered ostensibly to celebrate his 65th birthday, but it soon becomes obvious they have other things on their minds.

The show centers on the dysfunctional relationship between favorite son Brick and his seductive wife Maggie, who calls herself a "Cat." Confrontations abound, but even in this family's drama there are some humorous moments.

The Wimberley Players interpretation of this Tennessee Williams classic, set in 1950’s Mississippi, runs through August 22. Guest Director is David Schneider, President of the Gaslight-Baker Theatre in Lockhart.

José Shenkner of Austin is the personification of Big Daddy, complete with commanding voice and presence. Carla Daws is poignant as Big Mama, a woman desperate to hold onto the ones she loves. Deanna Lalich simply sizzles as Maggie the Cat. Brian Villalobos, also of Austin, plays a sensual, brooding and tortured Brick to a “T”.

Pollitt FamilyRick Fitzgerald as Gooper, Melinda Ellisor as Mae, Dan Williams as Doc Baugh and Dan LaFleur as Reverend Tooker beautifully round out the cast, completing the picture of a family on the brink of change. You will hold your breath waiting to see what happens next.

Come out and see a few old friends and some new faces on the Wimberley Playhouse stage. You’ll certainly walk away with a Southern drawl.

“Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” runs from July 30 to August 22. Performances are Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 and Sunday afternoons at 2:30. Tickets are $18. They may be ordered online at any time at www.wimberleyplayers.org or through the box office (512-847-0575).
