A Costume
Shop for the Players
Our directors and producers
have expanded the creative use of the larger stage with exciting set
designs, amazing lighting...and costuming at a new level of beauty and
authenticity.
We hope you’ll want to help us make those costumes less of a challenge for the
volunteers who literally sew their fingers to the bone all too often!
Currently,
costumes are made at home on personal sewing machines that are not
equipped to handle the heavy materials or theatrical-sized items.
Imagine the frustrations of sewing draperies or Man of La Mancha
costumes in a home setting – broken sewing machine needles, fabric too
bulky for the machine to process, not to mention the yards of materials
and trims and buttons and threads and fitting pins that have to be put
somewhere!
Creating
a “costume shop” in the theatre will mean that costumes, draperies and
upholstery can all be made in-house. What a delight it will be for
our designers and production volunteers to measure, fit, and sew in one
specific space for all our theatre needs. It is our hope to equip the
costume shop with professional equipment like a Bernina or Pfaff sewing
machine and sewing machine stand, a serger for finishing the raw edges
of fabric, dress forms for designing and fitting costumes, and a work
table. And all of this creative work is produced with measuring and
layout devices, scissors and pinking shears, and specialty needles that
are essential for the sewing construction of garments and draperies. Our
research team has estimated that the costume shop equipment and supplies
will be an expense of about $9000-$10,000.
Please help us make this happen.
